Give Your Boo(ch) Some Love: Sustainable Gift Ideas

Sustainability has been one of our core values from the beginning. In fact, environmental responsibility is built into everything we do, including the finished product. Way back in 2015, Andrew Clark started brewing kombucha-with-a-kick at home with the vision of a delicious, gut-friendly product that was organic, raw, locally-sourced, and kind to the environment. In a word, sustainable. This remains our central mission today. We compost and recycle everything we possibly can; we’re proud members of 1% for the Planet; and we partner with a bevy of organizations dedicated to the conservation and protection of this big spinning space rock we call home. If you’re anything like us, you’re feeling the crunch of finding the perfect gift — with a dash of guilt about our carbon footprint. What better time for a list of our favorite sustainable gift ideas for you and yours? Keep reading for our favorite eco-friendly gifts. Tried, tested, and approved by the Boochcraft crew.

Stocking Stuffers

Spare the turtles! Stock up on reusable straws.

The thing about plastic straws is that, well, they’re super pokey. They bust loose from trash bags and fly into gutters that drain into the ocean, where they do some serious damage to marine life. But enough of the bad news — let’s talk about swapping out the way you sip. Sand Straw: These classic, stainless-steel straws are well-designed and they’re just so darn cute! Plus, the company gives 10% of its profits to supporting sea animals. Koffie Straw: This silicone bad boy is dishwasher safe and comes in compostable packaging, which breaks down in the trash if you forget to compost.

Channel your inner Andrew Clark with your own kombucha brewing kit.

Seriously, it’s not as complicated as you think. This kit from The Kombucha Shop contains a dried mixture to start your very own culture at home with instructions on how to keep it healthy, so it can grow to be a happy, slimy, alien-looking SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast). Just add organic black tea and sugar and soon you’ll have a handcrafted probiotic tangy beverage. Science!

The stainless steel tumbler that’s for so much more than wine.

A great gift for your beverage-loving friend who’s dropped a few glasses in their day. With over 3,000 five-star reviews, the YETI Rambler Wine Tumbler is one popular kiddo! These double-walled, insulated cups keep drinks cold — or warm, hot toddy anyone? — for hours on, so you can enjoy your favorite beverage at the ideal temperature. Grab a BPA-free lid to reduce your chances for spillage. Got a Boochcraft fan on your list? Get your hands on our branded tumblers made by the wonderful folks at Mizu. They hold 16 ounces, are completely recyclable, and look damn good.

The Big Gift

Plant-based portable phone chargers? Yes way!

We all have that friend who’s always plugging in their dying phone behind the bar. These portable phone chargers are made from plant materials and recycled aluminum. All the products arrive in plastic-free packaging that is totally recyclable. The company also provides a bag (not plastic) to send back your expired electronics, which they will recycle for free when you’re done with them.

Spoil the compost champion in your life. We know you’ve got one.

It’s a little pricey, but it’s so rad! Maybe we’re just eco-nerds, but we’d be stoked to unwrap this. The Food Cycler Food Waste Recycler breaks down food waste into nutrient-rich soil in as little as three hours. Check out the video to see how it works.

The Bigger Gift

Sustainable gear for the adventure-seeker.

For all the travelers and adventurers in your life, shop sustainable gear that’ll last for years to come. Lucky for us, there are tons of outdoor outfitters providing eco-friendly supplies and giving back generously to the environment. A few examples of brands deserving of your support are Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Cotopaxi, and Columbia. Every backpacker needs a comfortable place to sleep. Give ‘em something cozy like these Big Agnes sleeping bags. What’s better than kicking back after a long hike? We love this eco-friendly hammock by Coalatree. Oh yeah, what’s our favorite sustainable holiday hack? Using newspaper to wrap your gifts. Skip the tape and tie it off with some twine, dress it up with a sprig of holly or bit of a pine branch, and boom — a waste-free wrap job. We hope we helped inspire some creative conservation-minded ideas to check one or two lucky recipients off your list. From all of us at Boochcraft, we wish you the happiest of holidays.
