Answering Boochcraft’s Most Frequently Asked Questions

We’re not your average alcoholic beverage brand - and we like it that way. Our high alcohol kombucha is truly in a class of its own since it is such a unique product on the market. Us and a handful of others are pioneering this category, so consumer education is a big focus for our brand. As you can imagine, we get a lot of curious and thoughtful questions every single day. These range from a simple, “So...what is it?” all the way to specifically asking for our recipes. So let's take some time to knock out some of your FAQs.

Q1: Does Boochcraft Hard Kombucha have caffeine?

The short answer: a little bit.

We use organic black tea to produce Boochcraft. But, as our raw ingredients make their way through our brewing process, most of the caffeinated tea gets eaten up by the SCOBY. The SCOBY - or the symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast - uses the black tea as fuel to ferment the raw ingredients. This is what ultimately turns fruit juice into the yummy, fizzy kombucha that you know and love. For each serving of Boochcraft, there's about 21 milligrams of caffeine. That sounds like a small amount, because it is. It translates to a couple of sips of black tea. To compare, your morning latte packs in about 10 times that amount. So, don’t worry, no caffeine buzz to report here, just a feel-good one!

Q2: How much alcohol is in Boochcraft and how much is in non-alcoholic kombucha?

The short answer: every flavor of Boochcraft is 7.0% ABV. Non-alcoholic kombucha can be anywhere from 0.5% to 2.0% ABV.

Let’s start by explaining alcohol’s role in the brewing process. Kombucha is created by fermenting tea and fruit juice with a little help from the SCOBY (see above). As the yeast and bacteria consume the sugars found in the raw ingredients, they yield carbon dioxide and alcohol. The carbon dioxide is what gives kombucha its fizz and the alcohol is what makes Boochcraft so wonderfully buzzy. The final alcohol content is largely determined by the brewing method and the ingredients. Here at Boochcraft, our Master Brewer came up with the idea of higher alcohol kombucha. So, instead of filtering the excess out, we opted to leave it. Since the fermentation process creates alcohol naturally, we feel that hard kombucha is one of the purest and unrefined ways to catch a buzz. Boochcraft truly has the best of both worlds: all the fun of your traditional alcoholic beverage but the same health benefits of kombucha.

Q3: Is Boochcraft gluten-free, vegan, and organic?

The short answer: yes, yes, yes!

At Boochcraft, we pay close attention to the ingredients we source. While playing around with fun flavors and experimenting with new blends, there are several things that we always keep the same: 1. Our ingredients are sourced in-season and directly from organic farms. 2. There is nothing artificial. Just take a look at the label! 3. All ingredients are 100% gluten-free, vegan and certified organic. We are intent on creating only the highest quality kombuchas for our customers, so while the above seems simple, it actually sets us apart. You can rest assured that Boochcraft will never have any traces of gluten allergens, yucky pesticides, or ingredients you can’t pronounce.

Q4: How much sugar is in Booch?

The short answer: between 5.5 and 13 grams per serving.

The sugar content of our high-alcohol kombucha depends on the flavor and the ingredients used to create it. Here’s one thing to know for sure: you’ll never catch us dumping a bunch of added sugar into our brews. All of our flavors are naturally sweetened, either by the cold-pressed fruit juice or other carefully sourced inclusions like organic maple syrup in our Lemon Maple Thyme (have you tried it?!). Even so, Booch has a much lower sugar content than most alcoholic drinks on the market. For comparison, one ounce of liquor can have up to 10 grams of sugar in it, while a mixed drink can have a sugar content as high as 30 grams. Yikes. We know you have a TON of choices when it comes to picking an alcoholic bevy. Hopefully, this sheds a bit more light on the unique beauty that is our Booch, and why it makes a better-for-you alternative to traditional drinks. Feeling thirsty?
